As we recognise the extraordinary response to the wildfire, we’re also reminding visitors that Rothiemurchus and the surrounding area are open and ready to welcome you.
We wanted to take a moment to recognise the incredible efforts of those involved in responding to the wildfire over the past few weeks and remind visitors that Rothiemurchus and the surrounding villages in the area are safe, open and ready to welcome you all. Walks, cycles, activities, cafes, restaurants and lots more awaits!
When the fire first broke out almost three weeks ago, hundreds of members of the community – from farmers to gamekeepers and local contractors – joined the response effort alongside the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, including Rothiemurchus team members. Our Biodiversity Manager, Peter Ferguson, was on the ground supporting operations directly and Rothiemurchus farmer, Grant Mackenzie also attended, bringing the farm’s tractor and water bowser to assist firefighting efforts.
Other team members supported the response too, taking food and drinks to Glenmore for the fire fighters and volunteers working tirelessly to contain the blaze.
It has been devastating to see the impact on nature and precious habitats and this incident only serves to remind us how dangerous it is to light fires, discard glass or throw cigarette ends, especially in times of high fire risk.
Supporting local businesses
Many businesses in the area rely heavily on being open throughout the summer months, which helps to support the employment of a significant number of people in the community. We are continuing to champion this very special part of the National Park and promote the places that are still very much safe to visit. So, please don’t stay away from Aviemore or Nethy Bridge – all businesses and activities in the area are open and ready to welcome visitors.
