Meet our newest Ranger recruit, Shona
Our newest Ranger recruit, Shona Keith, has been working in visitor roles at Rothiemurchus for almost eight years, and is currently studying a Countryside and Environment diploma, supported by Lantras Scotland’s Women in the Rural Economy Training Fund.
Shona works three days per week within the Farm Shop, assisting Farm Shop customers and stocking the shelves and fridges up with wonderful food and drink produce and gifts.
On the remaining two days, Shona is out with the Rangers and come March, she’ll join them full-time: “I am very excited about moving over full time with the Rangers in March. It’s been something I have wanted to do since I started at Rothiemurchus eight years ago.”
Shona’s role is incredibly varied and no two days are the same but there are aspects of her job here that she’s most passionate about: “I love taking Hairy Coo Safaris. My favourite part of the job is speaking to visitors about these amazing animals and it’s so nice to meet people who share my love for them and who are interested in finding out new facts about our Highland cattle.”
With two children and a husband, Shona’s spare time is few and far between but there’s no stopping her when it comes to her fitness routine: “I tend to do my running and fitness at 6am when everyone’s still in bed, I like to set myself a fitness challenge every year and I plan on doing an ultra-marathon this year. I have two German Shepherds and a Dachshund x Poodle puppy, so long walks are a must most days.”
And what is Shona’s favourite place on Rothiemurchus? “I have lived around here my whole life and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else; Achnahatnich Farm is my favourite place on Rothiemurchus, it’s my dream home!”
We’re on the look-out for more excellent people to join the Rothiemurchus team in a variety of roles. Have a look on our web site at some of the positions we have available here.
