Rothiemurchus Farm Shop near Aviemore champions Scottish and local producers
with an exciting new range of food and drink for Autumn
Autumn has arrived on Rothiemurchus, and at the Farm Shop, that means a new season of tasty produce. Through the summer we’ve been sourcing and tasting lots of incredible new food and drink and have chosen some very special Scottish and local suppliers to join us. We’d love you to meet them!
IJ Mellis
We’re delighted to welcome IJ Mellis of Edinburgh on board, suppliers of fine artisan and farmhouse cheeses.
Founded in 1993 by Inverness-born Iain Mellis, they now have shops in Edinburgh, Glasgow and St Andrews and are firmly established as Scotland’s leading cheesemonger. We have an array of wonderful Mellis cheeses for you to get to know, including the stunning Alp Blossom – a delicate Alpine cheese coated with edible flowers. Elrick Log is a goat’s cheese with a lovely lemony flavour; Brie de Meaux and Baron Bigod are perfect for brie connoisseurs; there are goudas, manchego and blue cheeses and an Aberdonian cheddar “Auld Reekie” – smoked with whisky barrels. As usual we’ll be choosing a “cheese of the week” so look out for our tasting notes and suggestions for accompaniments.

Ace Kombucha
If you haven’t yet discovered this incredible drink, we heartily recommended you drop in for a bottle or two. Naturally sparkling fermented sweet tea, Kombucha is known for its tangy flavour and gut-healthy organic acids. It’s alive, raw, unpasteurised, unfiltered, naturally fizzy, low in sugar, caffeine and calories – and tastes amazing. The Ace brand is small batch brewed on the other side of the Cairngorms National Park in Ballater and we currently stock three flavours: jasmine, hibiscus and gunpowder. It makes a tasty and healthy alternative to sweet fizzy drinks or beer and contains only four natural ingredients. Try it and we promise you’ll be converted!

Cairngorm Leaf and Bean
A specialist small batch coffee roaster based in Boat of Garten, just a few miles down the road. Cairngorm Leaf and Bean will be providing the Farm Shop with beans and ground coffee in two blends. The Backyard Bothy blend is a mix of lightly roasted Sumatran Mandheling, Indian Monsoon Malabar and Brazilian Ipanema Topazio. Expect well-balanced earthy sweetness, rich creamy molasses notes, with a lingering dark chocolate aftertaste. For those who love their coffee without the caffeine, we’ve got their Mountain Water Wash Decaf – high grade Colombian coffee beans naturally decaffeinated using the mountain water process. We’re delighted to be adding this ultra-local supplier to our coffee offering and we’re sure you’re going to love it!

Mountain Cafe/Bothy Bakery
Keeping it local, the final member of our fantastic four of new suppliers needs no introduction. Kirsten (or KJ) Gilmour previously ran the Mountain Cafe in Aviemore for many years. Her new venture The Bothy Bakery embraces the same passion for flavours that loyal customers loved at the iconic cafe. We are proud to be offering her breads freshly baked on Wednesdays and Fridays, as well as cakes and traybakes each day.
