Summer Family Adventures at Rothiemurchus

Little Landys at Rothiemurchus

The school holidays are here, and if you’re looking for ways to keep the kids entertained while making the most of the great outdoors, Rothiemurchus has plenty to offer. Whether your family enjoys meeting animals, getting active, exploring on two wheels or trying something completely new, there are activities to suit all ages and interests.

Set in the heart of the Cairngorms just a few minutes from Aviemore, Rothiemurchus is a place where families can slow down, spend time together and create memories that will last long after summer is over.

Family Quad Trekking

For families with children aged 10 and over, our Family Quad Trek offers a chance to head off-road and explore parts of Rothiemurchus that many visitors never see. The trek is specially tailored to younger riders, with a relaxed pace through forest tracks and open moorland. Keep an eye out for wildlife along the way – and, if you’re lucky, you might even spot a few of our Hairy Heilan Coos.

Little Landys

A summer holiday favourite, Little Landys gives young drivers aged 5 to 10 the chance to get behind the wheel and tackle our purpose-built off-road course. It’s always popular with children who love the idea of driving their very own Land Rover and provides plenty of smiles along the way.

Explore by Bike

One of the best ways to discover Rothiemurchus is by bike. Visitors can hire bikes and e-bikes for anything from a few hours to several days. Adult and children’s bikes are available, along with trailers, tag-alongs and baby seats, making it easy for the whole family to get out and explore together.

With miles of family-friendly trails winding through woodland and around lochs, it’s a great way to enjoy the scenery at your own pace.

Bait Loch Fishing

Fishing is often where a lifelong hobby begins, and our Bait Lochs are the perfect place for children and beginners to give it a try. The lochans are regularly stocked with rainbow trout, and all tackle and bait are included. While this isn’t a formal lesson, our friendly team is always happy to offer advice and help newcomers get started.

And That’s Just the Beginning

Alongside these family favourites, Rothiemurchus offers a huge range of other activities throughout the summer, including archery, axe throwing, river adventures and clay shooting.

Of course, not every day needs to be packed with activities. Sometimes the best family adventures are the simplest ones. Rothiemurchus has an extensive network of paths and trails to explore, from easy woodland strolls to longer walks through the estate. Families can follow the Beaver Trail, enjoy a picnic beside one of the lochs, look out for wildlife or simply spend time together in the heart of the Cairngorms. Whether you’re here for a few hours or a longer stay, there’s always something new to discover around the next corner.
